Getting Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 Without a New Computer
Q:  In your January 26th, 1998 InfoWorld Help Desk column, Paul Fisher asked how to install the FAT32 file system on a workstation whose hard drive was being upgraded. I believe you blundered when you proceded to explain to Paul that you can only get OSR2 installed within a new computer. You can also get OSR2 in two other ways: with the purchase of a new motherboard or with a new hard drive. You can now say "Oops," Brett....

Gary J. Couse

A: OK, I'm saying "Oops."  A search of the Web did reveal a handful of vendors who will sell you OSR2 with a hardware upgrade, rather than with a whole new machine. Reader Thomas Campbell pointed out one that posts a particularly useful FAQ (list of freqently asked questions and answers) about OSR2; see http://www.compuclinic.com/
